‌沙糖桔的原产地是中国广东，尤其是四会地区。‌在20世纪90年代前，沙糖桔也被称为十月桔或冰糖桔，因其味甜如沙糖而得名。2002年起，西林县开始引进沙糖桔种植，开发沙糖桔产业。

一、产区特点：Characteristicsoftheproductionarea:

1、西林县98%的土地是肥沃的土山，土层具疏松、深厚、潮湿、肥沃的特征，非常适合沙糖桔的种植。

2、全境属亚热带大陆性季风气候，年均气温19.1摄氏度，年均日照1612小时，全年无霜期350天以上。光热充足，冬无严寒，夏无酷暑，土地气候，昼夜温差大，平均差值5.5℃，最大达14.0℃，有利于沙糖桔的糖分积累。

3、全县集雨面积超过50多平方公里的有17条，集雨面积超过100平方公里的有9条，年平均径流量76.26立方米，给沙糖桔的生长提供了有利的条件。

2009年，西林沙糖桔获得中国无公害农产品证书，2011年11月，西林县被中国经济林协会评为“中国沙糖桔之乡”，2012年11月22日，西林沙糖桔又获得“国家地理标志保护产品”认证，2014年7月，西林沙糖桔取得国际域名注册证书。

四、如何挑选howtochoose：

1、正宗的西林沙糖桔表皮粗糙，布满了密密麻麻的小黑点，这些小黑点是油室，油室越多，沙糖桔越甜，汁水越多。同时，沙糖桔的表皮较薄，容易剥碎，不易剥成一整块。如果表皮光滑或能剥成完整的橘皮，那么它可能不是正宗的西林沙糖桔。

2、正宗的西林沙糖桔味甜如蜜、含糖量高、果汁丰富、果肉质地脆嫩且化渣无核。如果品尝后发现味道酸涩、果肉干瘪或含有果核，那么它可能不是正宗的西林沙糖桔。

3、西林沙糖桔的个头一般较小，直径在45厘米左右，重量在3050克之间。可以用手做出一个OK的手势，如果沙糖桔能正好放入这个圆圈中，那么它的个头就是比较合适的。个头过大或过小的沙糖桔可能不是正宗的西林沙糖桔，或者品质不佳。
